Our People
Jim has been in the software industry since 1980, in a variety of roles and responsibilities. He has held successively more responsible positions in military and defense contracting, commercial software development, and training and consulting. He has been involved with the BCIT Bachelor of Technology program, mentored students at SFU Surrey and the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Leaders of Tomorrow program, acts as a mentor in the New Ventures BC competition, and has been on the Business Advisory Board of the Advanced Systems Institute of BC.
Jim has wide experience in a number of key technical areas that are essential for the successful leadership of professional teams. Project management, estimation, quality assurance and testing, peer reviews, and requirements analysis are all areas that Jim has a demonstrated expertise in. He has provided training and mentoring in all these areas, both publicly and onsite, with clients on three continents.
Jim has personally worked with more than 100 organizations in the past 10 years with a goal of improving business efficiencies. An integral part of this effort has been a focus on techniques for measurement of productivity gains and ROI for refined development and management practices.

He has published numerous technical articles, and has presented at major conferences and local professional associations. His first book, Software Teamwork: Taking Ownership for Success, was published in 2007 by Addison-Wesley Professional. Jim lives with his wife and two children in Vancouver.
