Our
Approach
Overall Value, Learning, and Measures
We recommend a phased program for improvement
that is sensitive to your goals and constraints. You will always understand the cost and value of
the current stage, and we'll provide estimates for remaining stages, refining
them as we go. We don't lock you into massive contracts, and you may disengage
any time you feel you are not receiving reasonable value.
At all points, we subscribe to the 'teach them
to fish approach' – we will transfer as much of our technology as you are
interested in, allowing you to be more self-sufficient in the future. While
there is always value in external objectivity, if applied correctly it need not
be an ongoing burden to your organization.
We work with you throughout the engagement to
identify the few measures that will provide insight into your progress. We
develop the measurement models in advance, help you identify baseline data
(which is often not readily apparent), and set expectations for what to expect
as reasonable returns - you will be pleasantly surprised.
Increasing Awareness - for Both Sides
Clarrus has optimized the initial diagnostic
phase to dramatically increase your value proposition - you won't simply drop a
bag of cash to be told what you already know.
We identify where you have best practices
challenges in your teams - anyone can do that. We touch your entire
organization, and span the entire development lifecycle. We go further to
identify where there is lack of common understanding within your organization,
and where your practices are most significantly impacting your bottom line. We
provide clear, relevant benchmark data that will tell you precisely how you
compare against the industry.
All this insight is shared with your entire
team, to raise awareness within the group, address any questions or concerns,
and set the stage for the following improvement phases. We strive to avoid
analysis paralysis and quickly advance into the following stages to provide
fast, tangible returns...
Setting the Stage
Once critical areas have been identified, we
provide the necessary best practices training to your team to lay the
improvement groundwork. With your team's common understanding of the value of
best practices, there is less confusion and resistance to change, creating a
higher likelihood of success for the initiative.
Our training is delivered onsite -
interactively, flexibly, and in measured doses. It is done in the context of
your current projects to provide a familiar environment for your team, insights
and solutions relevant to your burning issues, and deeper insight for us to
improve our perspective for downstream support.
Mapping Your Specific Approach
As
Clay Christensen recently noted in Fast Company, best practices are only "situationally
applicable". In the context of an overall framework (that you already have or we
can provide), we craft an approach with you that identifies precisely how these
best practices should be applied for your situation.
We don't simply throw templates at you, but
draw from existing industry collateral and our broad experience to tailor
adjustments to your current practices and culture.
Strong Follow Through
We're available as required to work with key
people in an ongoing fashion. Our low level of mentoring effort allows you to
perform mid-course corrections that are required to ensure you remain on track.
With a focus on a very few sweet spots and
solid follow through, you will experience reduced culture shock, higher
likelihood of success, and a stronger ROI.
Finally, with a recognition that the end
becomes the beginning of the next cycle, we facilitate a retrospective of the
project's performance of the project, and make recommendations for future
refinement. When done right, you will be better equipped to handle many of these
future refinements with far less support.
