QA and Test Workshop - Ship a Great Product!

Quality Assurance and Software Testing are among the least glamorous positions in the software development world. Hence they are often the most neglected. Interestingly, while most industries tend to improve product quality over time by orders of magnitude, there are often times we feel that software is headed in the opposite direction.

Taking a lesson from the rest of the world, the challenges surrounding the task of shipping a great product are not insurmountable. Surprisingly, it has been shown that embracing quality and test techniques that help you ship a great product will reduce your risk and chaos, and will cost you less money than staying with the status quo.

This workshop will be useful to software engineers, managers, testers, user representatives, and anyone else who would be interested in understanding how these approaches may benefit their team in shipping software applications.

This one-day session provides attendees with a thorough understanding of what Quality Assurance and Testing are all about. This will allow attendees to make informed decisions about how to best utilize existing resources to improve the odds of shipping a great product. We will reveal to participants how to create an approach to Quality to optimize their experience, through a series of practice sessions, exercises, and group discussions.

You will gain broad exposure to industrial strength QA and Testing Practices, obtain a clear, objective view of the value to be gained with these practices, and the associated costs you can expect to incur.

How these practices work with one another to form a cohesive approach to software development will be explored, along with a look at their relationships to other components of a complete software development approaches.

A blend of lecture, class discussion, group discussions, and practice sessions will be utilized. Practice sessions will give attendees experience in working with test and inspection techniques, and developing an action plan to implement a reasonable test strategy in your organization.
